Give a Gag Gift - With Personality!

The giving of a gag gift can be taken by the recipient as disgusting, moronic, and even tasteless. But the ones that are remembered for all eternity are the ones that are humorous and thought-provoking. Humor and laughter are great gifts and a great gift is appreciated anytime of the year...birthday, anniversary, retirement, or even just on Tuesdays! But a great gag gift shouldn't be a cheap looking piece of junk. Quality does count even for a joke gift. You want to be remembered by the recipient for your thoughtfulness and humor.

When invited to a party or gathering, how many times do you purchase the "safe" gift for the host...that mandatory bottle of nondescript wine. It fulfills the gift giving requirement but doesn't stand out to either the host or to the other guests...because they gave the same thing. However, with just a bit more thought, if you arrived with a thought-provoking word-play gift, the host would appreciate your gift the most. And the other guests may be a bit jealous that your gift got more attention than their bottle of wine. It will be passed around and be put in a place of "honor" at the party for all to see. But you must pick the right gift and that's where the Ox-Zy's come in!

When shopping for gag gifts, remember humor is the key to a successful gift. A little effort has to be put into a great novelty gift. There's a ton of clever gifts on the market and the key is to choose one that is humorous, original, and tasteful. Most of us can do without fake dog poop. It may be funny for 10 seconds...but then what? Where is the recipient going to put it? In the kitchen? I doubt it! The family room? No! So the effect of this gag gift is short lived. But a tasteful and thinking-man's gag gift will be remembered for quite awhile. It may not get placed on the mantel or in the china cabinet, but you will know that it's not in that box in the basement.

Another good thing about gag gifts is cost. They are usually not very expensive. Quality always shows, but junk is always junk. Before you buy a gag gift, ask yourself..."what kind of reaction am I looking for"...just a grin, a full smile, or an outright belly laugh? You have to know your audience.
